Globetrotting Gospel: The Power of Remote Work for Missions

In recent years, the idea of becoming a "missionary" has evolved beyond the traditional model of raising support, moving to a singular foreign country, and serving in one place to spread the Gospel. With the rise of remote work and “digital nomads,” there's a growing opportunity for believers to use professional skills to serve and share their faith from anywhere in the world, opening up a new era in world of missions.

Whether you want to call it the "Globetrotting Gospel" or “Mobile Missions”— there is a  new movement of missional believers who are developing remote careers to leave their comfort zones for distant shores and make disciples for Christ while living and serving abroad.

Through technology, these individuals are able to follow in the footsteps of Paul’s tent-making, taking their careers with them to earn a sustainable income while making disciples of all nations at the same time.

At its core, remote work is all about flexibility and freedom. And when you combine that with the call to missions (making disciples of all nations), the possibilities are endless.

Whether teaching, coaching, marketing, writing, you name it, there are countless ways mobile missionaries are using their skills to serve others and share their faith.

The opportunity for utilizing remote work as a means to sustainably share the Gospel goes beyond just the practical financial and location-independent aspects. It's also about the mindset of being a citizen of heaven, not being tied to a particular country and having a heart for the nations.

Through remote work, we have the opportunity to connect with people from all walks of life and gain a deeper understanding of different cultures and perspectives while following the Holy Spirit’s lead to make disciples and build Christ-centered community.

Of course, there are challenges that come with being a part of this new wave of missional living, including cultural perspectives, time differences, and language barriers. But with the right tools, support, and of course, with Christ,  these challenges can be overcome, and the opportunity of remote work for missions can have a life-changing impact.

In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing stories of women who are working remotely while sharing the Gospel around the world.
